Stimulus Based Questions:
Section 1, Part A is 55 questions in 55 minutes. The SBQ portion is worth 40% of the total exam score. The multiple choice questions in each set ask students to respond to a primary or secondary source. Multiple choice questions reflect the level of detail present in the required historical developments found in the concept outline for the course. While a set may focus on one particular period of the US, the individual questions within that set may ask students to make connections to thematically linked developments in other periods.
Strategies:
1. Consider what type of question it is. Is it necessary to have the stimulus for your answer? Is the stimulus just helpful, no actual need? Is the stimulus unhelpful, this question only uses the stimulus as a "window dressing."
2. Do the questions in order.
3. Finish the job! You don’t have time to look at a question twice. Help is not on the way. Every resource you will have is in front of you. You either know it or you don’t.
4. Be quick! You need to be 100% focused at all times on the task at hand.
